Meet The Hairy Handlebars

Who are we?

We are two regular guys who wish to satisfy our curiosity of the world by pedalling across its largest landmass. The chance to embark on this ultimate adventure, while raising money for such an amazing charitable cause in Movember, is one neither of us could pass up.

You can read more about our motivations for the trip in our blog piece ‘Monotony Motives’.

In the meantime, here’s a little bit about us

Asides from raising money for an incredible cause, cycling to Japan gives me the unique opportunity to meet people from different cultures and learn what makes them happy. Along with my distinct lack of cycling history, I’m also apprehensive about being unable to feed my ferocious appetite, as well as the inevitability of sustaining too many punctures.

LIKES

My grandparents, the sound fizzy drinks make when they’re opened, when dogs disobey their humans and fizzy lager shandy beers

DISLIKES

Celery, privileged people who moan and Cats

The opportunity to raise funds for such important issues, and ones that are so close to my heart, provides me with such a deep motivation to undertake this adventure. Fortunately, over recent years, I’ve developed a passionate taste for the outdoors, particularly through struggling my way up mountains, including Mount Toubkal in Morocco and a week of wild camping & exploration of the Norwegian Fjords. Worryingly, bicycles have been rather absent during these escapades. However, the yearning for discovery is there, and what better way to see the world than from the saddle of a noble steel steed.

LIKES

Maps, hummus, the beach, cold ones on the beach, and Hygge

DISLIKES

Avocados that don’t smash, when bags are scraped along a concrete or gravel surface, one-dimensional inside centres and cucumbers

COUNTRY MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO

Georgia. I’ve heard the landscape is stunning, the people are generous and hospitable, and the red wine flows like the ancient rivers of Babylon
